Bid to impeach Gov: Nasarawa lawmakers petition NJC over Chief Judge's conduct

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday took an step towards furthering their impeachment plans against the state governor, Al-makura.

The House passed a resolution to petition the National Judicial Council (NJC) on the role of the Chief Judge of the state during the crisis that engulfed the state as a result of the plot to remove the governor.

According to a report obtained from Channels Television, the PDP dominated House of Assembly, which resumed plenary on Monday after weeks of the impeachment saga, accused the Chief Judge, Suleiman Dikko, of partisanship in the discharge of his duty.

The House cited the breach of section 188 sub-sections 5 and 7 of the 1999 constitution.

The House majority leader, Mr Godiya Akwashiki, who moved the motion under matters of public interest, also accused Justice Dikko for breaching the constitution in the formation of the probe panel which acquitted Governor Al-makura.

The House then directed the clerk to write to the NJC on the Chief Judge after the motion was passed.

Also, the lawmakers moved to suspend one of their colleagues, Tanko Tunga, from the All Progressives Congress for six months with a 50% pay cut for act of misconduct.

This is the first sitting of the State Assembly with the full complement of lawmakers from both the PDP and the minority APC, since the impeachment plot against Mr Al-makura was hatched.
