Endorsement-Dr. Okelekwe for Senator-Anambra Central

By Professor Ben Nna Okoye

With protracted problems facing Anambra Central as a whole, we need, now more than ever, a disciplined, focused, pragmatic, logical, creative, organized, problem-solver as our senator. A candidate who has a record of cohesiveness toward creative solutions to difficult problems, who has shown admirable courage, passionate realism and exudes an infectious optimism.

Independent, experienced and ready to serve, Dr.Okelekwe is a skilled competent leader who is widely admired for his civility, diligence and political acuity that connects well with electrifying ambience. The caveat is that he is not a candidate of the status quo. He has demonstrated that he possesses the temperament and indispensible qualities we need to regain a disciplined approach to both raising the bar of our development program, and creatively meeting the attendant strategic implications as we continue to accelerate forward.

He brings a substantial record of service, integrity and leadership. His knowledge of multimillion-dollar budgets and keen business experience from running his own flourishing business as C.E.O gives him an insight in managing a budget and strategic leadership. He understands how to build rapport, consensus, create efficiencies, make prudent decisions and carefully consider divergent viewpoints in cognizance that Anambra earned its national prominence for its culture of educational excellence, industriousness and perseverance.

Dr. Okelekwe understands the permutation formula imperative for Anambra Central to champion uppity in Education, Agriculture, Economic Development, and Employment opportunities while working in tandem with corporate Nigeria, International companies, small businesses and individual entrepreneurs to recapture their trust in Anambra central through aggressive security fortification, eradication of corruption and kidnapping, transparency and confidence efficacy.

There is another practical rumination that puts him ahead of his competitors: We know him. We know his disposition. He has lived a very philanthropic life, awarding many scholarships to destitute Anambra central indigenes. We know the sorts of collaborative decision he makes when he is called on to balance his duties vs. what might be political expediency. He has a record of accomplishments that we can judge. And on the balance, what we know about him is mellifluous.

Here is Dr. Okelekwe in his own words, quote “I don't believe that any individual should be denied the right to education on account of poverty. That is what drives me. That's why I am contesting. I am not contesting for a Senate seat to indulge in primitive accumulation of wealth. I may not be very wealthy, but I thank God that I can meet my basic needs. So, I don't need to serve in government to get my basic needs. God has taken care of that. But life is not about personal comfort. Life is not about self. Life is about touching others. It is about living for others. That is why I am aspiring to go to the Senate. It is easy for politicians to make promises when they are seeking for office, but when they get there delivering on those promises becomes difficult. If you look at my mission statement, part of the things I say I will do is to get the people involved in the process of lawmaking. If I get elected as a senator, I will institute what I call monthly town hall meetings, which will rotate from one local government to the other. In Anambra central, there are seven local government areas. We will use this mechanism to sound out the people, tell them these are the issues on ground; get their feedback; get their opinion and take it into account their input in either proposing a new law or proposing an amendment to existing ones or moving a motion to draw the attention of government to certain areas. I know a senator has a only legislative power. He doesn't have an executive power. But a senator, who places common good above personal interest, can make an impact. Why most legislators don't make an impact is that they go there to speak for self. But if it is for public good, you will make an impact. It is not in awarding contracts, but in serving as conscience of government, serving as conscience of the society as well; making sure that laws that are made are such laws that will better the lot of everybody in the society. Good and qualitative laws that will create conducive environment, that if a businessman wants to invest, that the bottle necks are removed. I truly don't believe that government can create all the jobs. No! It does not happen anywhere in the world. The engine room for growth in any economy is the private sector. But there are things we need to do. We need to create enabling environment; we need to make the right laws, so that an investor will have smooth ride, when he wants to make his investment decisions. In any case I believe that the people that will develop this country are the local investors and the government. Foreigners can come. But the role of the government is to create enabling environment and infrastructure. So as a senator , I can champion such laws that will promote business, laws that will create a level playing field so that when you graduate you don't need to know any senator or minister to get job, if you qualify” End of quote.

Anambra Central is fortunate to produce Dr. Okelekwe who is not a demagogue but a manager, a candidate whose experience is rooted in the pragmatism of the business world rather than the ideology of partisan politics. The time has come to put aside dogma, rancor and inflexibility in favor of real-world solutions to the array of obstinate continuance. Anambra Central needs a strong leader, a practical leader in the person of Dr. Kodilichukwu Okelekwe for Senator, he is the real deal, I implore all indigenes to come out enthusiastically and vote for him.
