AKASA A FAI FAI ON FREEDOM RADIO, DUTSE, JIGAWA STATE

By CDD Nigeria

Centre for Democracy & Development (CDD), in partnership with the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) and support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), has commenced a Radio Programme called “Akasa A Fai Fai” on Freedom Radio (99.5Fm), Dutse, Jigawa State. The program comes up every Wednesday from 9am to 10am.

The radio programme is a component of the CDD/CITAD Project to promote Democratic Accountability in Jigawa State through the use of modern information and communication technology and the promotion of citizen engagement with the government. As a way of galvanizing citizens' participation in the democratic process, CDD hopes to use the program as a platform to gather “inputs” required for the citizens and Jigawa state government to produce and implement people-centered policies and deliver public goods to its citizenry.

The programme will enlighten residents of the State on the provisions of the 2014 Appropriation Act with specific focus on social sectors (Education, Health and Water) and real sectors (Agriculture and Commerce & Industry). It is also a platform for exposing Jigawa State's residents to the processes of budget formulation and implementation, strategies for tracking and monitoring budget implementation as well as broadening their horizon on unfolding and phenomenal development in the state with regards to budgeting. We shall take up topical budget issues in social and real sectors of the economy, place it before the public for discussion, and resolve on how some pressing issues could be addressed. In all, it is a platform for learning and interchange of ideas on how accountability mechanisms could be entrenched and institutionalized in the state.

The radio programme will run for 26 weeks. The first edition was broadcasted live on the 13th of August 2014, which introduced citizens to the project and expected outcomes. It featured Kabir Dakata of CITAD as our guest.
