10 feared killed , 2 police officers abducted in Taraba inter-ethnic clash

The inter-ethnic crisis in Taraba State flayed up Tuesday as Tarok and Junkun militias fought with Hausas.

Reports quotes local officials in as confirming that that at least 10 people were killed in the clash, with two policemen and several other women abducted from a boat.

The fight broke aout when the when neighbouring Tarok and Jukun militias allegedly attacked Hausa dominated communities of Mala and Damfar,Ibi local government.

The boat usually ferries no fewer than 70 passengers on market days.

Chairman of Ibi local government, Mr Isiyaka Adamu, was quoted as saying that already 10 people were confirmed killed, while several other market women were abducted when the attackers seized the boat conveying traders and other passengers that were heading to a neighbouring community of Tella.

''We have been told that for now 10 people were killed, and many market women on boat that could not swim in the river are said to have been abducted.

''More security personnel have been deployed to rescue the abducted persons and also to restore peace,'' Adamu said.

The Ibi LG chairman said security in parts of Ibi has been porous especially at the coastal and border areas.
