Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the August 9 governorship election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore has said he couldn't have participated in a debate organised by the rival All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP candidate said he was ever ready to debate with other aspirants, and welcomed any “opportunity to share vision of how to rescue Osun state from the mess created by the APC Government.”

A statement by the Omisore campaign organisation denied reports that their candidate boycotted a debate for the candidates.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false report circulating to the effect that…Senator Iyiola Omisore boycotted a debate for aspirants ahead of the August 9th election. This is far from the truth,' the organisation said in a statement signed by Prince Diran Odeyemi.

“The debate (which) held today in Osogbo was however a monologue because of several reasons . The first was bad organisation on the part of organisers.

“The whole world should know that the organisers did not contact the PDP candidate the party or any principal official of the party over the debate. It was only this morning around 10am that a phone rang with the caller informing that the organisers were waiting.

“This sordid organisation on the part of the organisers also raised questions about their credibility and financiers. Our checks confirmed that the organisers operate from Government House, Osogbo, and work for an organisation financed by the APC political family,” Omisore said

He noted that all over the world, election debates are orgainsed by impartial bodies that demonstate the highest level of professional competence.

“No responsible political organisation will submit to a biased and badly organised election debate especially by a group whose political profile is shady and whose motive is suspect,” added Omisore, saying he wouldn't allow an outgoing administration distract his house-to-house campaign.
