Boko Haram: FG orders 40 helicopters from US, Russia

The Federal Government has ordered for 40 helicopters from the United States and Russia to fortify military operations against terrorism.

President Goodluck Jonathan had last week written to the National Assembly for the approval of $billion loan for the strengthening Nigeria's military hardware, which has proved deficient in combating the rising insurgency especially in the northeast Nigeria.

Besides, the main terror group Boko Haram is believed to hiding in various forests scattered in the northeast region even up to Cameroon, which has made military operations against them difficult.

According to PR Nigeria, the government placed the purchase orders for 40 helicopters, which will deployed for attacks and transportation.

Some of the aircrafts will arrive in the country as early as next month while the remaining will be received certainly before the end of the year to boost the Nigerian Airforce.

the inability of the Nigerian military to rescue the abducted girls of Government Secondary School Chibok, Borno State, 103 days after and counting, has exposed the deficiencies in the capabilities.

The deadly Boko Haram terror group is believed to be holding the abducted girls in the notorious Sambisa Forest, which the military has been unable to storm owing to poor equipment.
