The campaign train of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the August 9 governorship election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore reportedly came under attack Friday evening in Ilesha, the second largest town in the state.

Ilesha is hometown of incumbent governor Rauf Aregbesola, of the rival All Peoples Congress (APC).

Dangerous weapons such as cudgels, machetes and bottles were used by thugs suspected to be loyal to APC.

Eyewitnesses told Pointblanknews.com that Omisore escaped unhurt, but that the vehicle conveying the state PDP chairman Gani Olaoluwa was damaged by the thugs.

Three personnel of the State Security Services (SSS) attached to the Omisore campaign train were reportedly injured when they attempted to confront the thugs known as “state boys.”

The ongoing governorship campaigns in the state have been marred by violence and name-calling.

A few weeks ago Omisore had during a campaign in Ile-Ife, his hometown, come under attack by thugs. The PDP candidate said the thugs were sponsored by APC.
