Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who are opposed to the political stance of the incumbent governor Chibuike Amaechi have endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term, while calling on the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, to vie for the position of governor of the state in 2015.

This group has always been known to working in tandem with Nyesom, who has been in political opposition to Governor Amechi in the run to the 2015 elections.

The lawmakers in a statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday said they had to back Jonathan because of his the success of the transformation agenda.

The names of the lawmakers in this group include Evans Bapakaye Bipi (Ogu/Bolo Constituency), Martin Amaewhule (Obio/Akpor Constituency-I), Michael Okechukwu Chinda (Obio/Akpor Constituency-II), Victor Ihunwo (Port-Harcourt Constituency-III), Kelechi Nwogu (Omuma Constituency), and Ibani Ikuiyi (Andoni Constituency)

They said: “We members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Rivers State House of Assembly have endorsed President Jonathan for a second term as president in 2015.

“This is due to his transformation agenda which is fast tracking development in the country.

“The transformation agenda of the Jonathan's administration has been felt in critical sectors of the economy such as power, aviation, oil and gas, education, agriculture, trade and investment, health and tourism.

“The transformation agenda has also led to the development of key infrastructure particularly roads as well as economic empowerment of citizens and the improvement of the well-being of Nigerians.

“If the Jonathan's administration could achieve these in less than four years we believe that if given a second term it would achieve more and place Nigeria in a better position among the comity of nations.”

The lawmakers also said they had to endorse Wike because of his achievements in the education sector since his appointment as minister.

“We have also endorsed the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike for the state governorship position in 2015.

“Our support for Wike for governorship was borne out of his achievement in the education sector in the country as well as his sterling leadership qualities, ”said.

While calling on Wike to contest for the position of governor, the lawmakers, said: “We assured the minister that he would get our total support anytime he decides to declare his ambition to run for the state governorship election.”

Similarly, youths of Jonathan's local government area, Ogbia, in Bayelsa State have passed a vote of confidence on the president for his “unprecedented developmental strides.”

His kinsmen want him to declare, contest, and win the 2015 presidential election.

The youths, drawn from various youth platforms/groups, also passed a vote of confidence on Governor Seriake Dickson, with a plea to him to continue the good works he had been doing in the state.
