Unity Bank restructures, sacks 170 workers

Unity Bank Plc on has sacked over 170 workers as part of its strategic re-positioning for effective service delivery, the bank said in a statement in Abuja

In the statement on Wednesday, the bank also stated that it had recruited over 300 new members of staff, mostly at the entry level.

According to the statement, , “Unity Bank Plc has announced the disengagement of over 170 members of staff and has also recruited over 300 new ones, mostly at entry level and experienced hires. The exercise is in a bid to right size its workforce and position the bank for sustainable quality banking services across its entire branch network.

“The development of the bank's human resource is one of the key areas identified as part of the objectives that the bank's just concluded capital raising exercise would address.”

The Executive Director, Secretariat and Services, Unity Bank, Mrs. Aisha Abraham, was cited in the statement as saying, , “Our people are our greatest assets; we consistently strive for training and rejuvenation of our workforce, constantly introducing a steady mix of promising young talents and experienced professionals.

“Our goal is to be able to offer quality services to our customers through a team of dedicated and resourceful members of staff at all times.”

She said that the bank had been working to align the decision making and service delivery processes running along the strategic business units, which resulted in specialisation, better understanding of the market and responsibility accounting.
