The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) women wing yesterday donated truckloads of relief materials to victims of insurgency in Borno and Yobe states.

In her speech, the National Woman Leader of PDP, Dr. Kema Chikwe disclosed that the initiative is part of efforts put in place to alleviate the sufferings of many innocent Nigerians who are victims of Boko Haram militants.

'This Boko Haram situation has contributed to mass displacements as civilians -out of desperation- escape the insurgency. The consequences of this horrendous act of terrorism abound: mass displacements, homelessness, and the destruction of the livelihoods of our brothers and sisters in the North East' she said

Chikwe used the occasion to thank President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, National leader of the party, Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu and other well-wishers for supporting her programme right from conception.

On the abducted Chibok girls, Chikwe said they had earlier organized prayers for the kidnappedĀ girls and visited the victims of the Nyanya bomb blast in hospitals in and around Abuja.

“The sufferings of these innocent Nigerians can no longer be ignored. As Nigerians and members of the biggest and the only consolidated political party in Nigeria-PDP, it is pertinent for us to provide support to the victims of terrorism in these communities with the intended objective of alleviating the sufferings and hardships of our brothers and sisters.

“It is clear that in terrorist scenarios, the main victims tend to be the women and children. As the National Woman Leader of the PDP, I find myself perpetually sad by the dire circumstances of the women folk in these regions, hence, I initiated this programme' She concluded.
