FG approves N1.3bn for feasibility study of six standard rail lines

Federal Executive Council has approved N1.3bn for feasibility study on standard six rail lines, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has announced.

Maku announced this shortly after the weekly FEC meeting while briefing State House Correspondents.

He was joined at the briefing by Transpot Minister, Idris Umar, as well as Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Olusegun Aganga .

Umar explained the viability of the project, and how it will impact economic life in the selected rails corridors.

According to him, the feasibility study will also involve both rail stations and environmental impact in the selected rail corridors.

He further stated that the six rail lines will cover 4430 kilometers, with 6 months completion period.

He listed theĀ  corridors as Kano/ Dai/Jimbia an approximate distance of 354KM, Ilela/Sokoto/Jega / Kontagora, 408km, Aba/ Ikot Ekpene/ Itu/ Uyo / Uduopkani/Calabr, covering a total distance of 340km, Kano/ Nguru/ Geshua/ Damaturu/ Maiduguri/ gamburu Ngala, covering 707 Km, Calabar/ Ikom/ Obudu/ Ogoja/ Katsina Ala/ Wukari/ Jalingo/Yola/ Maiduguri 1669km.
