Adamawa lawmakers impeach Governor Murtala Nyako

Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state has been impeached. He was impeached after the state House of Assembly deliberated upon the report submitted by a seven-man investigative panel probing allegations of financial misconducts against him and his deputy.

Minutes before Nyako was impeached, his deputy, Bala Ngilari, resigned his position as the number two man in the state.

Ngilari's resignation letter was read at the plenary by the speaker of the Assembly, Umaru Fintiri and approved by the lawmakers.

The Assembly is heavily fortified by security operatives who have denied people access to proceedings.
