PDP Invites EFCC, ICPC To Investigate Governor Amaechi Over Corruption
The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has urged
the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent
Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, to immediately commence investigations
into the financial activities of the administration of Governor Rotimi
Amaechi, following spontaneous outcry and revelations on cases of
corruption against the administration.
The Party feels strongly concerned that a government which receives the
second highest monthly allocation from the Federation Account coupled with
huge internally generated revenue which amount to over four trillion
naira, which he has reneged on giving account of to the people as
promised, stressing that the governor does not have anything on ground to
justify such financial recklessness.
More worrisome, the PDP notes, is the ill-gotten affluence currently being
displayed by Commissioners in the administration of Governor Rotimi
Amaechi.
The Peoples Democratic Party notes several complaints of Rivers people
about serving Commissioners who are swimming in massive ill-gotten wealth
and are living above their means.
The Party observes with great concern how serving Commissioners, aides of
Governor Amaechi, immediate past Local Government Council Chairmen and
other appointees of the Governor have acquired posh houses and other
properties in choice areas in Port Harcourt, Abuja, Lagos, and in other
States of the federation, and even outside the shores of Nigeria through
burgled tax payers' money.
The invitation of the EFCC to look into the financial records of the
Amaechi administration has become apparent following the near cave in of
government in Rivers State, the default in the payment of teachers' and
lecturers' salaries, pensioners entitlements, lack of good roads in Rivers
State, lack of potable drinking water and above all, using Rivers tax
payers money to advance the cause of the APC and APC Governors Forum in
addition to the just concluded governorship election in Ekiti State.
The PDP insists that the Amaechi-led government is corrupt, and launching
an investigation into the financial transactions of the administration
will save further looting of tax payers' money in Rivers State.
PDP calls on the EFCC and other relevant organizations to invite the
Commissioners of Agriculture, Transport, Education, Finance, Budget and
Economic Planning, Social Welfare, Water Resources, amongst others for
investigation.
