BEVERLY HILLS, CA, June 05, (THEWILL) - A fresh Boko Haram attack Wednesday night on Bargari village in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State has reportedly claimed the lives of 45 persons. Several others were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries from gunshots.

Situated on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Bargari is about 30 kilometres south east of Giwa Barracks which was attacked by the insurgents on March 14.

‎
The Boko Haram gunmen who were also said to have embarked on massive looting of food items and livestock during the raid left many of the villagers displaced as they set many houses, shops, vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles ablaze.

Residents of Maiduguri were thrown into fear as the sporadic gunshots from the attack re-echoed in many parts of the state capital. A resident of the village, Mallam Abubakar Maikudi, who ran into the bush to escape from the attack, gave a gory picture of what he saw when he returned after the gunmen had left the village.

'I counted 45 dead bodies, including that of one of my neighbours littering on the ground. The gunmen who came into the village at about 9pm on Wednesday gathered the residents in one place convincing them that they came into Bargari to propagate the teaching/preaching of Islam, and when almost all residents were gathered, another large number of terrorists came from nowhere and opened fire on the congregation.

'We started running for our dear lives, I was able to escape without being shot, but the gunmen were able to kill over 40, injured many before they started looting properties and set structures ablaze, razing the whole village completely,' he said.

Another lucky resident who craved anonymity said : 'The gunmen numbering about 20 ambushed the village, they drove in four Toyota Hilux vehicles, and had AK47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, and petrol bombs. They wreaked havoc before they fled towards the Sambisa forest,' he said.

However, there was no official confirmation of the attack as the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Gideon Jubrin, could not be reached on phone when filing this report. But a senior security officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told THEWILL that '45 persons were killed when suspected terrorist group invaded Bargari village near Maiduguri, leaving several others seriously injured.'
