Mohammed from 622 AD was constantly carrying out jihad, burning and killing people, selling off his captives into slavery to collect money for his jihad. That was how he was sponsoring his jihad. Another way was highway robbery in the desert of Arabia where he was way laying caravan owners, collecting their wares and selling them for money, while kidnapping the owners selling them off to slavery for money.
