BEVERLY HILLS, CA, May 08, (THEWILL) â€' Another shocking reality of Monday's Boko Haram's attack on Gamboru dawned on the residents on Wednesday as over 50 corpses of the victims of the attack were recovered from the rubble of burnt shops at the town's main market.

About 300 persons were said to have been killed during the attack by the gunmen, who also destroyed property worth millions of Naira.

Disclosing this to THEWILL was a resident of Ngala, Abor Masa , who said after the re-opening of the market on Wednesday, 50 dead bodies were recovered by health workers, volunteers and traders.

'Since the day of the attack, nobody went near the market until today(Wednesday) and unfortunately, we found many dead bodies in destroyed shops. There are some Chadian and Cameroonian traders among them who hid in shops,' he said, adding that some of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.

'It seems they hid in the shops in order not be killed while fleeing, unfortunately, several explosives were thrown into the market,' he said.

Local sources said just before the gunmen struck, some people allegedly told security personnel in Gamboru that they sighted some men ferrying some girls across the border.

'When the security heard this, they mobilised together with CivilianJTF and headed towards the area and that was when the assailants stormed the town and subdued the few security officials on ground before burning the town,' a source said.
