Human Rights Report: National Conference: Goodluck Jonathan’s 75% Majority Rule Translates To Minority Rule

Hausa-Fulani did not want the conference in the first place. In fact, the Islamic North-Hausa-Fulani-Nupe-Kanuri did not want the National Conference to start with because they hold the axe in the present constitution.

They hold the nut and bolt of the constitution which was drafted to favour them by the military. So, they cannot be part of any system that tends to change the status quo. It is natural.

Igbo proverb says: 'When any evil deed lasts a year, it becomes a custom'. The imbalances in the system constitutionally bent to favour Islamic North as bad as it is naturally, is now taken to be custom acceptable. Wanting now to change the status quo is seen by Islamic North as aberration. That is the problem. They do not want:

(2) Equal State and Local Government creation among all the Geopolitical Zones. These are the two

(2) things that define Nigeria which the Islamic North do not want to be changed. The third is Sharia in the system.

Since they are in majority in this issue, they bargained with Jonathan to have 75% instead of 2-3 majority as the Decision Criterion that is in the constitution knowing full well it is not easy anywhere so they can defeat the conference. Goodluck Jonathan must change this rule.

It is like Goodluck Jonathan bargained with Islamic North Secretly on 75% criterion and gave them the Chairman to control it in order to quash the decision of the conference. That is why I earlier said that Goodluck Jonathan is not sincere on this conference of a thing.

But lets give him benefit of doubt.
