The National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has resigned.

Per Second News gathered that the embattled chairman was forced to resign in a bid to avoid being suspended from the party by the members of the NWC.

His deputy Uche Secondus is believed to act in the capacity as chairman, although the first Lady Mrs. Patience Jonathan is said to be scheming to install Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar as Tukur's successor.

A PDP leader informed Per Second News that neither Umar nor Secondus can act as chairman as the constitution says that a member from Alhaji Tukur's Zone shall be selected to act in the capacity of a chairman.

PDP youth activist, Ugochinyere Ikenga, accused Tukur of series of constitutional and procedural breaches since becoming the PDP chairman.

“Tukur did not apply for, nor obtain the requisite waiver by the National Executive Committee of the party before offering himself for election into the office of national chairman in 2012.

“The legal effect of the foregoing is that with an utterly flawed and incurably defective membership, the nomination, subsequent election and stay in office as chairman was fraudulent, illegal and unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, PDP governors are ready for showdown with the first lady. More to follow
