The State Government is to commence immediate intervention to improve the condition of more roads in Onitsha. Governor Peter Obi stated this while inspecting Bida, Okwei and Moore Streets, Onitsha and some other bad spots in the commercial city. Earlier, he had also inspected on- going work at Upper-Iweka, Iyiowa Odekpe and Obodoukwu Roads.

Governor Obi said the condition of the roads was unacceptable to government as they were unconducive for traders to conduct their activities. He assured the people that as his Government is working in all sectors and in all places, that the roads would be given adequate attention to.

He explained that remedial work will be done on the roads to make them accessible throughout the rainy season while the major reconstruction will commence immediately after the rains.

The Governor said his administration was not relenting in upgrading infrastructure in Onitsha and environs.

He counseled residents of Onitsha to help Government by carrying out their civic responsibilities and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse. "Wheh you dump refuse indiscriminately in culverts, you contribute to the destruction of the roads because those refuse usually block the flow of waters which will be forced to burst at the reams. Besides, it breeds mosquitoes and other vectors that inflict all manner of sickness on us," Obi said.

One of the traders, Mr. Okey Muoghalu commended the Governor for his unrelenting efforts to transform the entire State.
