Diaspora’s contribution is needed in developing Imo State – Honorable Chinyere Uwandu

The level of confidence Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha places on Diaspora indigenes of the state is very high so the Governor expects all citizens of the state to join hands with his administration to improve quality of life for the people of the state and develop Imo state in to an envious state in Nigeria.

During a courtesy visit by the Editor-in-Chief of The Voice magazine, Elvis Iruh to Honourable Chinyere Uwandu, the special Assistant to the Governor on (NEPAD) in her office in Owerri, she disclosed that the Governor is willing and already working with various Diaspora organizations spearheaded by indigenes of the state in an effort to creating an enabling environment for them to contribute their quota to the advancement of Imo state.

According to her through the initiative of her office, the Governor appointed Diaspora Imo state coordinators is to guarantee the citizens of the confidence the Governor has in its people and he expects them to contribute to the development of the state by encouraging both citizens and their various hosts to come and invest in Imo state of Nigeria.

Honourable Uwandu confirmed that many of the coordinators are up and doing in attracting investors to the state, in particular she mentioned that some coordinators like that of France has already initiated projects sponsored by the French institutions and bringing exchange of programs to Imo state.

She called on other Imo state coordinators to work hard to attract investors into Imo state especially in the area of youth empowerment and job creation; 'if these investors are to come to the state and create jobs, local people would be employed and help reduce unemployment in the state'.

On the part of the government, Honourable Uwandu pledges her department commitment to help facilitate such visit to Imo state any time such an arrangement is confirmed.

According to her, the poor state of public infrastructure and utility services in Imo state are things of the past as Governor Rochas Okorocha is working very hard despite all challenges to make Imo state one of the best states comparable to any major state around the world. “You have seen for yourself, the level of development going on in Imo state, I just came back from a project commissioning, so there is one thing or the other going on Imo State'.

She appeals to Imo indigenes across the globe to join hands with the State government to build Imo state that all would be proud of. “Our Governor is open to constructive and developmental ideas so if you have any positive contribution to make, kindly channel it to His Excellency and he would consider it”

On her department, she says they are looking for interested parties abroad to come and invest in the youths of Imo state, 'we have a huge force of young able bodied men and women who can be gainfully trained and employed in various fields of human endeavours; the government is doing its best but the government can't do it alone', she concluded.
