The Rivers state commissioner for commerce and industry, Hon. Barr. Chukwuma Chienye has said the first ever collaboration between the Commerce Ministry and Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce has produced a huge success.

The commissioner who spoke during the closing ceremony of the 1st Port Harcourt Easter Discount market held at the Isaac Boro Park on the 15th of April 2013 said the partnership was a worthwhile experience which the ministry intends to sustain.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sir Gift Ake the commissioner underscores the importance of the organized private sector in the socio-economic development of the state and noted that the Easter discount market was to create awareness on business development in the state. |He gave assurance that the Gov. Rotimi Amaechi led government will continue to explore and take advantage of areas that will be beneficial for the entire citizenry like it has successfully done with the Port Harcourt chamber of commerce.

In his remark earlier, the PHCCIMA president, Engr. Emeka Unachukwu said the Easter discount market collaboration was an experiment that turned out to be a huge success. According to him before now government had engaged in activities that require the input of the OPS which was lacking due to lack of cohesion.

He canvassed for stronger public, private partnership as a way of boosting entrepreneurial development in the state. The PHCCIMA helmsman was full of praises for the commerce commissioner for his vision and foresight of attracting the OPS to achieve this wonderful objective for the state.

Unachukwu maintained that the only way any programme of government can be sustained is through partnership with the OPS giving assurances that with PHCCIMA in the fray, the Discount market has come to stay. He used the occasion to sound a clarion call on other ministries to look inward and begin to accept the imperative of this hugely beneficial partnership with the OPS in the state in a bid to bridge the gap and benefit from its wealth of experience.

Meanwhile the PHCCIMA president, Emeka Unachukwu and Financial secretary, Allison Ogidigben who also is the chairman of the organizing committee of the first Easter Discount market were both rewarded with an award at the closing ceremony for a successful partnership.

Others who spoke were the Commissioner for women Affairs, Mrs Joeba West who was represented by the permanent Secretary of the group, Mr. Belema Mangibo
