Is PHCN On Strike?

By Abdulbai Jari

Dear Editor,
Allow me a space to inquire through this medium whether NEPA, sorry PHCN is on strike since last week without us knowing. I live in Lay out katsina, katsina state. For the past one week we have been living without power from PHCN.

We have not received any notification as to whether they are on strike, or they are temporarily "shutting service" to upgrade their "network" as network providers do say when ever customers complain of network.

Also, I have been following the news from newspapers, online sites and even the government stations, within my knowledge, i did not heat them talk of any thing like "strike" or "upgrade" - except that I saw it in the news that a DISCO in north east has requested for a force majure (return the company and have their money).

The gap in communication between companies and customers in Nigeria is unbecoming and unfortunate. Services providers, companies, banks etc are acting like this in Nigeria because the regulatory agencies are sleeping and sometimes in bed together with them. Many a times customer ate cheated with no where to report their problems.

It is my hope that the incoming government will rise up to expectations and check these excesses. Revisiting privatization of the companies may be in good health and necessary if found wanting. I pray power failure will end soon and become a thing of the past in Nigeria.
