Nigeria-russian Arm Deal, China Is The Intermediary
Before I started writing this article, after l had carried out extensive researches I listened to one of the conscious music ITT by most conscious musician Nigeria and subsequently Africa has ever produced Fela Anikulapo Kuti many times. (May his conscious soul and the soul of his mother, subsequently our mother rest in peace)
I was critically blaming Mr President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan all these while about our foreign polices because of the betrayal and disappointment on the side of western world powers who failed us, especially their failure fulfil their promises in assisting us on security matters cum curbing insurgency. I am talking about United States of America, his twin brother Israel and their mother United Kingdom. Of course they betrayed Nigeria even though Nigeria fulfilled even more than what was agreed in the agreement, bilateral and otherwise.
What hurts me most was that the betrayal continued even after Nigeria abstained at last minute betraying Palestine for first time (of course Nigeria has been voting for Palestine since 1988) who needed our precious vote in favour of Israel and to joy of United States of America, their Secretary of State John Kerry was begging Nigeria to help block the move, Israeli Prime Minister, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu was contacting our President one consistently till He received his assurance of support. They are the ones who know what they are getting in as profit that is more important than millions of innocent lives being lost every day in Gaza since 1967.
They kept singing praises to skies for Nigerian government; some said we voted according to our conscience(lying through their teeth), while some where praising President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria personally for keeping his to words by betraying Palestine who He promised his vote after months of lobbying. But the Palestine envoy was crying their eyes out profusely for Nigeria assured them her vote. I think quoting their envoy is a better way to exhibit their lamentation, “Nigeria has been big brother to us, but at this crucial time, to vote to end the occupation, but they abstained”
Now the right question is to ask why did Nigeria take such disastrous decision which we are not known for this time around? The answer is very simple and crystal clear. “Insurgency”, according to the ministry of foreign affairs, Nigeria's decision was not conscientious but strategic because at that critical time Nigeria has been fighting insurgency for more than 5 years. To hit the nail on its head, they said Israel offered us concrete assistance to curb insurgency which was rapidly eating up more lives and properties like locust feeding fat on farm. Most importantly, Israel agreed to sell weapons to us after America embargoed us on arm trade, and also to increase their assistance in agricultural, construction and intelligence sectors. Its worthy to note here that even before this, more than 50 Israeli companies operates in Nigeria in civil engineering, energy, communication and securities etc.
It's no more news how Israel failed and betrayed us by not living up to their promises subsequently after America because I wrote it in one my articles here. Their pretext excuse being that the companies that should sold the sophisticated weapons is owned by America.
The more complicated question now is why all these world powers that are enjoying our bilateral trade benefits, our loyalty cum votes as non permanent members of UN and vice versa which are part of foreign policy benefits denying us those benefits in return or failed to return same favour especially in curbing insurgency as deemed? Some said it's because the president refused to sign gay marriage law and law legalising abortion, I was part of those who concluded so. But I came across great information that led me into great research for information, I mean in depth research under the guideline of a political analyst. After the research I came up with basic cum primary reason why these twin brothers (America and Israel) with their mother (United Kingdom) betrayed Nigerians and subsequently the incumbent government of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
dont be in a haste, I will tell you but before I let you know, it's very important you should know that our economic problem has alot to do with America who use to be major oil buyers(50-60%) then suddenly stopped buying uniformed (as our ally who they claim to be, they should inform us spread we will be ready to face the challenges ahead because they know that dollar commands a high share in global reserves because of the depth and liquidity in the US market for treasury and agency securities. In Nigeria, over 90.0 per cent of its foreign reserves are denominated in dollar owing mainly to the fact that the country‟s crude oil receipts and other non-oil exports are invoiced in dollar(Oputa 2002)) Israel too has their portion of blame to take because of there companies not doing anything infrastructure-wise, the only thing they did for us is signing an agreement allowing direct air travel between both countries and sending two anti-terror experts to Nigeria to join the search for a group of schoolgirls who were kidnapped by the terrorist group, Boko Haram. tomorrow will be another day for our monetary ministers, finance and economy respectively to take there blames if at all they will.
it all started when unpredictable(of course it's bad for a president to be easily predictable in this information age) president of Nigeria visited 2 years ago, the visit exposed what USA was insinuating as well as took a lot from USA, Israel and UK. that visit showed USA who was responsible for infrastructure construction, agriculture, energy, aviation and aerospace going on in Nigeria without their companies. the visit was few months after Obama visited Africa without coming to the country who supplied USA uncountable barrels of oils that shaped their economy today as the best(so unfair). Premier Li Keqiang visit last may summarized everything but the masses didn't perceive anything. because this wise president GEJ was playing tricks with these super powers while taking most bliatetral trade from them to China who are interested in helping us becoming largest economy in Africa just as they are in Asia. even the visit of John Kerry early this year didn't make him to loose his composure. even our critics didn't make him to play media politics.
the result of of these decisions taking by the President is what we are seeing in the railway, aviation, light railway, trade, investment, agriculture, hydroelectricity, energy and most especially I believe that decision also brought Chinese best ally Russia in assisting us security-wise in the 6 week ultimatum magic of curbing insurgency that is positively going on in Northern Nigeria. I strongly believe we could have seen more if this critical decision was taking long ago.
I will leave these questions to my readers; why are these western super powers who betrayed Nigerian supporting the opposition party? will they give the opposition party the help they denied the incumbent who assisted them through our foreign policies? if yes, why? what are they expecting in return? will the USA start buying our oil if opposition party win? if my readers cannot answer it, let them ask the opposition party for answers to the questions. if the opposition party cannot answer these questions, then in accordance with the mutatis mutandis on foreign policies, let the incumbent continue.
