Veteran Nollywood actor, Alex Osifo, has revealed that the Igbos have invested more in filmmaking than their Yoruba counterpart.

The actor said despite Yoruba movie industry being in existence before the Nigerian English films produced by the Igbos, the Yoruba movie industry has not been able to matched their English counterpart.

When asked in a recent interview with E247 Magazine on the reason for tribal segregation in the Nigerian movie industry, the actor said, “Well, that's not such a difficult question to answer. It could be because we have a lot of ethnic groups, and of the three major tribes in the country: Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa, the Igbos are more enthusiastic towards sponsoring movies."

According to him, “The Yoruba industry has been around and it's growing, but it has not been able to match the pace of the so-called English movies. I don't know much about the Hausa productions to speak about them. When you talk about factions, I think it's just the mentality of our people.

“They are not satisfied with the way some associations are organized, and greed could also be part of it. A lot of people are just self-centred, but I think there is need for all of us to actually co-operate. Our focus should be the same if we must move this industry forward. As for me, I don't belong to any faction.”
