Designers to Showcase at African Fashion Week Nigeria 2016
The African Fashion Week Nigeria 2016 will be featuring more than 68 designers both in and outside Nigeria. FADAN, Dozzy Couture, Modela Couture , Elawe, among others will grace the prestigious fashion event.
The Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria will be showcasing at the African Fashion Week Nigeria 2016 edition. FADAN was established in 1989 with various chapters located across the country. It is the only well known and recognized body who focuses at promoting, marketing, and developing the Nigerian Art and Fashion Culture both in and outside Nigeria.
FADAN, a nongovernmental organization with the aim of providing all matters as it borders on Arts and Fashion within the shores of Nigeria has been able to lend hands to voluntary and charitable activities for the less privileged and senior citizens of our society.
The objectives of FADAN are: promoting Nigeria's culture through fashion, enlighten, monitor, educate and raise awareness; create massive fashion production hubs throughout the Federation. The production hubs will enable mass production of apparel made to international standards. This in turn will create huge job opportunities. To encourage formal education in fashion, institutions such as Yaba College of Technology and Kaduna Polytechnic are members of FADAN.
The Association also aims at creating a healthy and serious fashion industry in order to bring out its profits and the opportunities that is in it. It will commit to achieving various aims and objectives through different organized programmers, workshops, exhibitions and runway shows.
The Nigerian based international, mufti award winning Modela Couture was established in 2004 on winning NFS Nigeria best designer of the year, 2004 on 1st attempt, this marks the beginning of unlimited creation, discovery of the fashion business, good things to come, grandeur with a lot of hard work and dedication. Today,Modela Couture has become a benchmark for a lot of upcoming couture fashion designers. Also featuring is Elawe, a Nigerian based fashion clothing brand, founded by Elohor Sigbenu, a graduate of the University of Benin, and attended Zaris Fashion and Stlye Academy Lagos. It is a feminine brand that specializes in Haute couture. The brand combines international affairs with African influence using African fabrics and traditional techniques, with an attention to detail and regal femininity. It incorporates elegance, class and style in its designs.
It caters for all women irrespective of age and class. The brand evolved in 2014 and amongst its achievements and awards, she emerged Da Viva Ambassador 2014 till date, Emerging designer RUNWAY FADAN 2015, and has since been an active member of the supportive FADAN(Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria).
Dozzy Couture is the fashion label of Dozzy Nnamdi Obinwanne, a creative and talented fashion designer living in Lagos.A Graduate of Geology and Mining from the federal University of Technology Owerri.
Dozzy Nnamdi Obinwanne is a certified Fashion designer from International Association of Professions Career College Canada and the Assistant National Publicity Secretary of Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN). He also doubles as a Visual artist/creative designer at Tailoring Unit, Arts and Craft Department, National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) Lagos zone; a unit formed due to his creative work and designs.
Due to his roots as a true African, his exquisite pieces for men create the highlight of the true African while keeping the trend in place. Native pieces like Senator Attire, kaftans, casuals, Etibor-Niger Delta jumper and trousers; African styled patterns are definitive of the fashion line.
