APC Wins Gombe Local Govt Election As PDP Rejects Outcome

By Damilare Adeleye

The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winners of 11 chairmanship seats and 114 councillorship positions in the just concluded local government council elections.

Chairman of the Commission, Malam Saidu Awak, who announced the results in Gombe, said out of 19 registered political parties in the state, only five fielded candidates in the elections.

The state electoral umpire said that APC won all 114 councillorship positions unopposed as no party other than the ruling party fielded candidates for the election.

However, the Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the outcome of the exercise, alleging that it was a travesty of democracy and mere drama.

While the PDP said it is planning on what appropriate redress mechanisms to use, the newly elected and returned local government council officials will be sworn in by Governor Inuwa Yahaya on Monday, April 29.
